Seahaven Academy is in a very special location at the top of Newhaven with nothing but fields and hedges on one side all the way to the cliff edge.
The school is an important spot for migrating birds and insects who have just flown in and are looking for food. The fields have a native hedge planted all around them to provide food and a rest stop. The students have planted more hedge plants over the last couple of years. The grass in areas has been left to grow, and wildflowers and early spring bulbs have also been planted to attract different insects and birds.
A pond provides a home for newts, dragonflies, and damsels, and a small orchard of fruit trees provides nectar for insects before providing fruit for the students.
Swifts have been spotted circling overhead. We hope they’ll find the nest box we’ve provided. The students have also made a dead hedge, birdboxes and hedgehog houses to create more habitats for nature.
